Just a quick update, I have just candelled a few of my eggs as its late on day 22 and still nothing and the air sac seems to have what look likes half a blood ring in them but they all have chicks in, I'm guessing that means the chicks are dead inside? If so could anyone tell me why? My temperature has always been 37.5 and on day 18 my humidity has fluctuated between 65-70
I'm sorry I am coming in late and hear you didn't have any live chicks. There are so many things than can go wrong. Some people open the eggs and do an "egg topsy," to try and figure out why the chicks died in the shell. I would be too squeamish to do that.
You could still post an UPDATE now and ask what may have happened. When people see you JUST posted again they will respond.
Welcome to BYC! The blood ring could have been caused from a number of things. Like you stated earlier, changes in temperature & humidity. Also, improper egg storage. They have to be stored (and set in incubator) small side down.
Glad that 3 chicks made it. I'd give it another day. Good luck!!
Welcome to BYC, Jessica! Glad you decided to join our flock. My daughter's name is Jessica as well. Please feel free to ask any other questions you may have. We are here to help in any way we can. Good luck with your hatch.
Hi everyone an update on my first hatch... 3 chicks hatched and survived but the rest didn't. When it got to day 25 and nothing was happening I decided to stop my incubation and crack all the left over eggs to see what was going on...
My lavendar araucanas only four turned out to be fertile out of 25 and them four of them had rotted.
My other 10 3 hatched, 1 died coming out of the shell and the others we're fertile but didn't hatched and seemed not formed properly.
I contacted the seller not for new eggs but for advice as I knew it was something on my part for going wrong anyway she gave me 6 fresh eggs.
I disinfected my incubator and put them in. I tried things differently and by doing this I think (hope) I am in luck! At the moment my incy is in lockdown on day 20 so let's hope this hatch goes better!!
Thanks to everyone for advice
