Hello fellow chicken lovers,
I have always been enamored with eggs. Some of my fondest memories are of entering my grandfathers coop, dodging the hens, and gathering the fresh eggs. Granted it's been such a long time and that memory is fading but today, the hubby and I finally bought 4 chicks. Two three week old Speckled Sussex and two 4 week old Cuckoo Marans. Our cuties are settling into their plastic tub home tonight. It was a little bumpy settling them in initially as the 250 watt red light bulb which was recommended to provide them heat, almost cooked them. Thanks to advice from this forum, I moved them away from the heat and the light only shines on a small corner of the tub about 4 feet off the floor. They seem much better now. They seem a little lethargic/sleepy? but I'm hoping they will pick up tomorrow.
