We currently have 16 chickens and they're giving us enough eggs to help support four to five families so it's been a pretty good investment as far as we're concerned... We have four different breeds and we just love them all ...they are quite entertaining.... it's also teaching our grandkids how to handle them with gentleness and egg collecting...feeding ...their good chicken herders too lol

Only SIXTEEN chickens?? LOL. You have enough acreage for thrice that number! I started with 8 just over a year ago and, before I added 10 chicks for a broody hen two weeks ago, was up to 43. Just gathered 18 eggs from my pullets this afternoon! The bad part? I'm already planning on what I want to add in the spring. LOLOL
