Nifty-Chicken has shamed me into posting a howdy.

I've been a member for a while but apparently never got around to saying hello, so Hello!

My family lives in northeast Washington state on 20 acres, mostly timbered, some fenced pasture. Right now we're down to 4 hens. We're in the process of updating their living quarters and trying to determine which of the ladies aren't pulling their weight. 2 eggs per day is what we're down to but that's what we were getting even during the longer days of summer and fall. We've feed these girls all winter long, essentially for free, so they better get with it.

We are also planning on raising 25 broilers this year. It'll be our first time doing meat birds. We'll be doing them on pasture.

I built a Whizbang Chicken Plucker two years ago. It's been loaned to 3 different families and they've all loved it. One family only did 25 birds last year and was considering cutting that down to fewer birds this year because they hate hand plucking. After using my plucker they were so happy with it's ease of use that they bought another 25 chicks and then borrowed the plucker again last in the summer. Needless to say, it's about time I use my machine on my own birds.

Anyway, thank you to Nifty-Chicken for nudging me.

...and, if I ever get around to growing meat chickens, I may need to borrow that whiz bang plucker!
