In the Brooder
Hello Everyone!
I wanted to take a moment to introduce myself, my name is Carri I and I'm from Virginia. I'm not usually good at these introduction things, so I have "cheated" and copied the template to use as a guide to give you all some information about myself and our feathered family
(1) Are you new to chickens / when did you first get chickens? I would say we are still in the newish phase of owning chickens and are still learning new things everyday. We brought home our first coop, 6 hens and rooster in late August/early September of last year.
(2) How many chickens do you have right now? As of right now we have about 40 chickens of all different breeds, 3 guineas, and 3 turkeys. (And we love every minute of it!)
(3) What breeds do you have? We have 1 English Game Roo, Buff Brahma, Light Brahma, Japanese Bantam, 1 Turken Roo, Buff Orpingtons, Barred Rocks, Polish, Standard Cochin, Bantam Cochin, New Hampshire Red, Black Sex Link Hens, Americaunas, Silver Laced Wyandotte, Blue Wyandottes, Creme Leg Bars, and the most spoiled of them all.....a Lemon Blue d'Uccle Bantam Rooster. ( Oh yeah.....and 3 Lavendar Guineas, 1 Bourbon Red Tom, 1 Blue Slate Jake, and 1 Narragansett Hen).
(4) What are your favorite aspects of raising backyard chickens? I love how each of them have their own personalities. They are fascinating creatures and a joy to watch (and a whole lot smarter than most people think!)
(5) What are some of your other hobbies? We also raise pedigree Holland Lop, Mini Lop, and Mini Rex Rabbits for show (4-H quality) as well as for pets, and spending time with our 2 furry "Children" Xander (English Mastiff) and Ziva (French Mastiff), and also spending time with our families and friends.
(6) Tell us about your family, your other pets, your occupation, or anything else you'd like to share. My fiance and I both grew up around animals and share a common love for them, as do out families. As I previously mentioned we also raise/have 12 pet rabbits which we will start breeding in the spring when the weather warms back up. We also have 2 Mastiffs that we treat as if they were our children (since we have no real ones yet ). Every animal we own here on our mini farm is spoiled completely rotten and treated just like family. ❤
(7) Bonus: How did you find BYC, how long have you known about BYC, and what made you finally join our awesome community? Each time I would find myself turning to Google to find the answer to a question I would find myself here at BYC. Finally I decided that I needed to join this awesome community. Everyone always seems so nice, supportive, and nonjudgemental (unlike some of those social media groups out there these days). I look forward to making some new friends, sharing tips and tricks of the trade, and gaining and giving advice along the way.
