I am from South Texas, have a farm near Schulenburg. I have 9 hens and 1 rooster, three dogs, 1 cat and cattle. I started out with 24+ chickens but between coons, possums and skunks they have decreased my flock. I have my live traps set now. In the near future I want to try incubating my own eggs and raising chicks. Does anyone here sell hatching eggs for that purpose or know of a close (within Texas driving distance) place to get some? Schulenburg is on I-10 between Houston, San Antonio, Austin and Victoria Texas, all about the same driving distance.

Hello from Oregon!

Welcome to BYC! I'm in Georgetown, but I don't know of anyone who sells them. Someone at a local feed store may know of someone. I've also been thinking about hatching some, so will check your thread again for replies. Best of luck!

I got my incubator in today, I have it set up and am testing temp and humidity. Ive ordered my eggs. Nothing expensive like one poster recommended for first time trial and they are from a local source so hopefully won't get too shook up from her house to mine. If my young chickens were laying eggs Id try theirs first but I have only gotten one egg from one of the girls so far. I raised my hens from chicks so Im use to the brooding/feeding process. The incubating will be interesting. I will update on my progress. Im kind of excited.

And it begins, Incubator keeps good temp, Eggs sat for 24 hrs. as directed, now in incubator. Fingers crossed.

Its a mixed bunch, Lavender orpington, buff orpington, light brahma, rhode Island red and Americauna hens, the roosters were Lavender orpington and Black Jersey giant. They are all large breed birds.

It going to be a surprise. Ive got a countdown marked on my calendar just like a kid waiting for Christmas.
