Hi! I have had my chicks for about a week now. 10 lavender orpingtons. First time owning chickens, and I have already found this website to be so helpful! I'm on it all day, everything my chicks do in checking this page to see if it's normal!

so glad you have joined us.

Be sure to take lots of pics of your new flock, they grow up so fast.

Thank you for the warm welcome! Here are my babies in their temporary pen. I was worried about them getting bored (I read they could start pecking at each other) so I gave them some organic garden soil and a square of grass to scratch around in. They really seem to enjoy it.

Giving them soil to peck in is a very good way to build up their immune systems quickly too. If the weather is mild enough, you can put them outside for a few hours during the day as well.

Thank you! I hope to get them outside soon. My area has been hit with a lot of rain lately and we are all flooded. But I am glad to hear that the soil in their own is was a good idea. Thank you:)
