Hello, first timer here.

my baby chicks are arriving the first week in April. As soon as the snow melts my husband and I are going to put together the coop.
I have a lot o questions, but I’ll do one at a time.
What is the best thing to feed my baby chicks when they arrive?

They should eat chick starter or chick starter/grower feed until they start laying eggs. Depending on the breeds you get, they could start laying around 20 weeks old or older.

Welcome. Medicated chick starter in the beginning. I also like to give new chicks a little kefir or yogurt mixed with the starter to give a probiotic start. It could just be in my head but I seam to have less chick loss when I add the probiotics. Again, welcome. Have a great time on your chickens adventure.

This is a great point, I do add electrolytes and probiotics to their water for the first couple days of bringing them home. It helps relieve any stress from transporting or shipping.

Hello and welcome to BYC! Chick starter is what I use. I get my chicks from the local Farm store (not Tractor Supply) and they are usually in pretty good shape when I bring them home. A drop of Nutradrench is good in their water.
