Hi my name is Tracy. My husband and I have 4 kids and we want to get 4 Chickens and 2 Ducks. I would love to get help on starting out with them. Would it be too much to get them at the same time or should we get the Chickens first and wait on the ducks? I have heard chickens are easy but as newbies I am not sure. So I would like to get feedback on how hard it is to raise 4 baby chicks and what kind are good to get. Also is it hard to get eggs from them? We would love to have our own eggs and hear that chickens are great pets!

! In my opinion neither are "Hard" to raise as Chicks.. They do require some special care, and might even need to separate areas and lights .. sometimes if around the same age they gt along pretty good. But since ducks tend to get bigger faster they can be a little more aggressive .. I had one pick up a chick by the foot and shake a baby chick pretty hard. If You can I would definitely pay a little more and try to pick the sex's .. one female one male duck and no more than one Rooster.. if you don't plan on making babies 4 hens would probably be better. Some chickens are more social than others ( not necessarily a Breed Issue ).. and you probably couldn't get us all to agree on the best kind.. Many of us have our favorites.. Feel Free To Ask specific questions .. You will need a good safe area to keep them, starter food Heat lamp thermometer etc.. a few special items .. Enjoy ! ~ Corinne
