Hello Everyone! My name is Courtney. My partner (Tyler)and I live on the North Shore of Lake Superior and run at small mutual aid farm in our free time. The best part of our farm...obviously chickens.
(1) Are you new to chickens / when did you first get chickens?
I have had chickens for a little over a year now and love them so much, They are definitely our pets and it is hard to not keep getting more and more.
(2) How many chickens do you have right now?
We have 3 adults and 5 pullets...8 total. Hoping to get up to 20 someday.
(3) What breeds do you have?
Buff Orpington, silver laced wyandotte, Easter Egger, Olive Egger, Speckled Sussex.
(4) What are your favorite aspects of raising backyard chickens?
Our birds are so social and chatty. We get lots of cuddles from them and love gardening with them. They even go on hikes with us in the woods on our property. Just perfect little feather babies.
(5) What are some of your other hobbies?
Kayaking, backpacking, gardening, herbal medicine, activism/community organizing, and sewing.
(6) Tell us about your family, your other pets, your occupation, or anything else you'd like to share.
We don't have other pets, but do have lots of plants including an orchard and lots of different winter hard berries, herbs, etc.
(7) Bonus: How did you find BYC, how long have you known about BYC, and what made you finally join our awesome community?
I have been reading BYC for a very long time to answer all of the most random chicken questions I have. I finally joined to ask for advice on my own chicken health concern.
