That is the question!
Whether 'tis nobler in the mind to suffer
and put the bois into a drake jail or to sell
Or to take money agains the lack of females
and by purchasing more this problem solve.
To sell - to purchase. I know not.
For even if my Lady like a lady quacked
I ever have too many drakes to keep
five ducks for pest control would well suffice
I must solve this soon or else I'm, indeed, f***ed

I'll call him Horatio if it's a boy, or William
They just started their 13th week. And this one in particular is very quiet. When I pick her up she only does this muffled e-e-e. The lady doth not protest too much. 😄🪶🪶🪶

Jen, It's a drake. He has a drake feather. Five of my eight ducks are drakes. Dang it.
Horatio it is then! Tho I should call him Claudius, because he's been deceiving me.

I'll keep all of my boys. I don't know how, but I will. I checked all the places I know to get more hens and there are so many drakes for sale everywhere. Many people sell just drake + hen pair. Clearly there is a surplus, I can't add my boys to that. I'll build them each a separate pen if I have to.

Related question: Can I get females of other breeds of ducks to even out the ratio or do they all have to be runner ladies for the boys to be content ? I know call ducks are probably not a good idea but some other same size or bigger breeds maybe?

yes to other breeds. i have a cayuga hen and a khaki campbell who both were in a flock with a runner duck drake, they belong to someone in Delaware and her flock got attacked by a fox , well, Only these two hens survived and she gave them to me., i right away put some of their eggs under a broody chicken hen , and got these two beauties ( the ones in forefront of picture)

They are beautiful ❤️ Ducks are addictive aren't they :D Now I want every breed of every size.
