Hello Shadrach! Thanks for welcoming me here! The first batch were ebay barnyard mixes out of a dozen we hatched 7. Six were cockerels and one lonesome pullet that ended up being a bully. The next round an Amish friend offered to hatch them for us. Out of a dozen 6 hatched not sure of sex yet. I let him have 3 chicks. Two of his didn`t make it. All three of mine are thriving. They are all Jersey Giant x Light Brahma chicks. Nice looking birds. So yes they were cross breeding. I have since given my friend the JG rooster. I spend quite a bit of time in the run he didn`t much like that! Just too much drama in the flock! So I likely will just buy chicks from here on out.Hello Bsmac.
Welcome to BYC.
How many chicks have you been getting per hatch?
Are the chickens cross breeding or do you keep a single breed?
Thanks! I will try and get that done when I get a chance!Welcome. It's nice to have another experienced chicken keeper here. I would love to see a pic of the JG LB mix.
A bit of a shame really you didn't have better experiences. Things sort of iron out if with a couple of generations on the behaviour side and I love having roosters although I know the stress cockerels cause in unsuitable environments.Hello Shadrach!
