Absolutely new to chicken raising. We got four chicks that were said to be four week sold in early October 2024.

We have four chickens.

(3) What breeds do you have?

Two are Barred Plymouth Rocks and two are Australorpes. So currently they are about 14 weeks and a bit.

(4) What are your favorite aspects of raising backyard chickens?

Those are nice pets for our kids, Fun to watch and supposedly less demanding and easier care as compared to dogs or cats. Not that we ever owned any dogs of supposedly any cat owned us.

(5) What are some of your other hobbies?

Four years ago, I began my long-awaited chicken journey by sharing chicken responsibilities with a friend. Since that time, she and I planted a wonderful garden and acquired more chickens. Today, we each have six laying chickens--a variety of breeds. My chickens are my hobby! My favorite part is the joy they bring me each time they run across the yard with their funny gait or get sassy with one another because they all want to be closer to me as I am standing at their run. Ours is a symbiotic relationship in which we each give as good as we get.
