A couple months ago, I got this crazy idea that we should get chickens. I checked out a couple books from the library figuring that I would learn a few things, lose interest and then move on to something else. Now both of my kids (4 and 2) walk up to complete strangers and tell them that we're getting chickens. The 4 year old also goes on to tell them that she's going to gather eggs, feed them and clean up poop. I guess that means I'm committed now! We're hoping to get some chicks in the spring so I guess I have a couple months to figure out what in the heck I'm doing. I've been frequenting BYC for a while now and figured it was time to actually join. So here I am!

Also, let me just say...I think you'll find you won't regret getting chickens at all. And it's likely that once you've gotten a few, you will become a chicken addict like the rest of us.

Always build your coop for many more chickens than you plan on having--just in case!

Most common regret people seem to have!

I'm from Port Angeles! I live south of Seattle now but am at the family cabin on Lake Crescent fairly often. I love it up there!

Thanks for all the warm welcomes. I'll definitely be joining the Washington thread; I need all the expert advice I can get! I'll be posting pics of the cedar playhouse we scored on Craigslist in the coop forum for advice on how to pimp it out as a chicken coop.
