Hi, y'all! I am a homeschool mom of three...two boys (ages 12 and 2), and one beautiful daughter (age 10). I am also a first-time mom to five lovely little chicks. We bought our first three girls, red sex-links, in February, and quickly added 2 adorable ameraucaunas. They had been living in a guinea pig cage in my living room until about 1 week ago, when they happily moved to their permanent coop outside (benefit to Alabama is an early Spring!). We had watched the temps closely and let them spend their first night out when it was going to be a nice and warm night. They loved getting to act like chickens with all their outdoor space, so we decided to let them stay long-term! Very entertaining to watch! They have learned to go in out of the rain and wind, and have done a fine job already of scratching up the grass
In addition to our five hens, we are now fostering two little chicks (just about 6 days old now) for my MIL until they are big enough to join her young flock. I wasn't sure of their breeds, so I called the store and was able to get the info...a Barred Rock and a New Hampshire Red...both hens. She might get them back one day
Glad to be here to talk chickens with you fine folks!
