How wonderful. We bought a house near Dredge Lake, so we are tucked back by the glacier.

is that out near lemon creek or the mendenhal glacier ? left in 90

Mendenhall. It's about as close as it gets without being at risk for flooding. The glacier has receeded so much since '90!

I have a photo line up from the years there where the Glacier started the receding of it in the years I was there... Southeast Alaska Juneau is a rain forest not exactly as cold as further north

Yep, we love the moderate temps. Would you believe, though, that we currently have two feet of glorious fluffy snow on the ground?! With more coming next week!

Soooo exciting! Congrats! I know the feeling. We felt trapped in condo life and finally saved enough to get a little house instead. You will be sooooo happy with your move. I also live in a cold climate and wish I had started with ducks instead of chickens. I had thought since we don't have a pond that we couldn't raise ducks, but now from what I read, it sounds they do better in cold than chickens and continue to produce better over winter (which we have a lot of), so I think it will be a good start for you. Have fun!
