This is our 2nd try with chickens. Last year we lost all our chickens because they kept leaving the coop area and got ate by the dogs. This year we have reinforced the coop area and are adding additional fencing to give the dogs their own area away from the chickens. We tried 10 chicks last year and this year we doubled the amount with 20 chicks. I got an assortment of breeds, eggers, barred rock, rhode island reds, light brahmas. We live in Alaska so winter may be a challenge, as we are still trying to come up with a plan for what to do with the chickens in the winter. Some people insulate their coops from what I've heard, others move them into the garage....we have to make a decision. During the summer months i'm sure they will enjoy themselves and will have lots of room to roam.
