Golden Sex Link is one of a number of labels under which some hatcheries market their Red Sex Links. I've raised both Red and Black Sex Links for years, and while they are both egg laying machines, I have actually found that the Black Sex Links lay slightly better in really cold winter weather. I've also had a good lay rate from Black Australorps in really cold winter weather (down to 30 F below zero). Alaska Backyard Chickens has a good article on recommended chicken breeds for Alaska at http://akchickens.org/getting-started/recommended-breeds/. Both Australorps and Black Sex Links are included in their recommended list. Whatever breed or hybrid you decide to get, good luck with your flock.Thank you for the warm welcome, everyone!![]()
Not sure on what type of breed just yet, need something hardy (winter weather), and good layers. So far it looks like Golden Sex Links might be a good choice. (Hope I didn't screw up that name, lol ), no need for a rooster, just good layers.
