Hi new friends!
I suck at talking about me( kind of ) so I'll just answer the questionnaire template. But I'll be happy to answer any questions you Fine Feathered Friends come up with.
1. Yes I'm new to keeping chickens. I've been at it for a year now.
2. I started with 25 broilers and 6 Australorp hens. ( sell off from breeding stock) The hens that is and that's another story entirely
I still have the 6 original black beauties. Cali, Cassey, Jazz, Suzy, twin A and Twin B. Kept a couple eggs from their first lay, the day I brought the Black beauties home, and put the eggs in an incubator and had one viable embryo. Out hatched Wee Peep! Rooster! Well then I went and got him some friends to grow up with, that hatched a day previous to him.
1 buff Brahma rooster named him Jewels and 1 Buff Orpington hen Eggatha. Unfortunately Eggatha passed away for reasons unknown a couple months ago. And Wee peep valiantly launched himself into the jaws of my boss's husky last week, To protect his hens..Now don't scold me yet..I'll explain how the husky ended up with my birds on another thread., as soon as someone points me in the right direction to that category.
I now also have 3, 1 month old brown Sussex ( not named yet) 1 Plymouth Rock Betty Boop. And 3 Barred Rocks month olds as well. I'm talking to another breeder about 3 more Plymouth rock pullets. ( don't tell my husband! )

Yup...I'm a victim of chicken math. Lol

Onto question 3. Chickens are stress relievers. It's Like watching fish swim around, with not a care in the world. No matter how much your day, or people, get to you..., Pull up a chair, throw down some scratch and watch your birds peck around. Their quiet purrs, aka clucks, melt away the tension in your muscles and your whole body just goes peaceful. One of the best decompression methods I've come to love thus far.
4. Other hobbies. I like making things. No matter the medium used, wood, clay, fabric and thread, glass, metal etc.
I collect frog paraphinilia.
I keep Poison Dart Frogs
Rehabilitate troubled dogs( hobby!)
Canoe,fish
Backcountry hike
Dabble in a lot of extra curricular activities

5. I have a loving husband who lets me be me. He does keep me grounded.
I work with jumper horses. I'm the girl you don't see. The person who keeps things running in tip top shape.
My fur babies include 1 Border collie/lab/ coyote mix, Kodiak Behr. Kodi for short. (best pooch ever!!) she's rehabbing from a hip dislocation right now. Thank the lord she has enough sense to stay quiet for now.
1 Australian Shepherd Travis. He's a foster that Miss Kodi fell in love with. Wouldnt separate that bond.
1 Shih Tzu Mr.Magoo, Goo for short. He was scratching at my garage door, snow for dread locks, about 7 years ago. Try as I might, I couldn't locate his true owners.

And now the warren...
Tonka
Attila the Bun ( Tilly)
Wookey
Bean
Dotty
And Porta
All stray discarded ( Easter presents? ) Bunnies. Found in different locations around the city. Porta was actually in a Porta potty at the dog park I frequent. Food and a frozen water bowl with her. - 15 Celsius out that day. for everyone who works in Fahrenheit... that's 5 degrees.
And Tonka was dropped at my place of work with a note addressed to me attached to his box. ( word gets out, that I try and rehome strays, I guess)

And Now the Bonus Round!!!
Where did I hear about BYC? I was farm sitting for my vet.( Before I even considered getting chickens.) Noticed an old grow out coop needing some repair. Googled chicken coop builds and needs...ended up on BYC's "door step" so to speak. Hung out in the back for a couple years and then decided to get...wait for it...

CHICKENS!

Cheers
