Hello from Albuquerque!

Ok - wasn't sure you were aware. And I agree - we have talked about roosters , but then those pesky neighbors always creep into the conversation - maybe when I retire to the country. Saw the photos of your hens - where did you get them. Four sounds like a small enough number to start out.

Welcome to BYC from College Station, Texas! We share a flock of free-range chickens with our neighbors. On occasion we lose a chicken to a neighborhood dog. In fact, probably lose more to dogs than to other predators, such as raccoons or hawks. Actually, we lost one recently to my car. I was carelessly backing up out of the garage, and slightly bumped one. No blood, but she didn't last.

I got them from Cottonwood Feeds. There is a poultry swap, also, though, that I keep meaning to check out. They might have something fun there for you, too, and I am sure there will be chicks around come easter. I plan to add two or three in the spring.

Hi Teri, and Welcome! Sorry about your chicken. Mine stay in the back yard. I would love it if we lived a place where they could wander further and had neighbors going in on the flock! Maybe I will infect some of my neighbors with the chicken keeping bug.
