hello from an old new member!

Well im finally back in chickenville....hub and i have been in the process of moving, so i gave my dear flock away, and lo and behold, aint no one buying houses. so, fast forward a year and a half, my neighbor gave me 6 girls and a boy last week! yay! i am happy to be back (my name was millicent when last i came here) my flock is as follows: Admiral Curry, Lucille, Nadine, Joan of Arc, Natalie Portman, Janice Dickenson and Izzy, and they are currently turning their noses up at the sweet coop that hubby made them, which i named the house of the rising sun. is there any way to make them stay in their coop??? i am a free range kind of girl, so they are free to do as they please, but that coop is dead sexy! any and all suggestions would be appreciated! or just point me to where this question has no doubt been answered a thousand times. i love this site and i am thrilled to be back!!!!!!!!

I love it, a sexy coop!

Ah well, in that case, lock their butts up in it for a week and they'll learn that it's home. I just did it for my chicks that just moved outdoors. It only took a week and it worked perfectly, now when it's dusk-they go in on their own, but for a couple of stragglers. I just chase them in, they're getting better though. BTW welcome back!!

Where are you? Is it too hot in there for them? Are you sure it is well ventilated enough? You should be able to lure them in with a treat if it is comfortable for them.

thanks for the welcomes, and the advice...i suspected that i needed to 'coop' them up HAHAHA they are not inclined to go in for a treat as they were kind of free free free range at their former home...treats are still kind of new to them.ill just nab them when they roost (in my pole shed) and stick em back in. im in maine, so they will be fine(not too hot and well ventilated). and yes, it is a sexy coop. i will post pics if it ever stops raining and i can finish my paint job.
