I have really appreciated all the info available through backyardchickens! What a great, friendly, knowledgeable community, thank you!
The first of April (April Fool?) I took my two youngest granddaughters to the farm store and told them that they could each choose two chicks and I would take care of them and they could come see them any time. That’s how I started my little flock with 2 baby Buff Orps named Goldy and Sunshine (Sunny) and 2 Barred Rocks named Zebra (Zee) and Marie. All had lots of TLC and handling in our home for their first 6 weeks and then they were moved outside to coop and run. They also free range in our yard during the day. They are still very social and come running as soon as we step out a back door. We are all having fun with our little girls!
My husband and I moved from Montana to Utah last year—hope a Utah winter will be a little easier on the girls than Montana would be. Not worrying about winter right now though, thinking more about our first eggs coming before too long!
