Hi everyone, I'm Guada, from Argentina and have been reading BYC for a long time before I needed to post something, so here I am!

I'm very new to chickens, i just had my first three 5 months ago and they're starting laying rn <3. I love spending time with them as they surprise me every day with the things they do and how funny they are. I'm a graphic designer and sadly I still have to work 9 to 5 in front of a computer but I know I'm going to get free at some point soon-ish.

Im currently needing some help but my post in Emergencies / Diseases / Injuries and Cures gets a 'Awaiting approval before being displayed publicly' sign. :(.

Here in Argentina we've got an organization called 'INTA' (National Institute of Agro Technology) and they used to provide 10 baby birds to new people who want to raise chickens.
The chicks they provide are some beautiful black chickens with some brown feathers around their neck; after doing some research I found they look exactly like the 'black star' chickens. I'm posting a picture here :).
We don't have a massive 'market' for breeds like i see in videos in the US. Chickens here are still mostly seen as 'just chickens', so getting proffessional support is difficult, and getting specific information on the birds is also tough.
My ladies are Obsidiana, Pipa and Merlina. 🥰🥰🥰

Those do look like Black Star (or Black Sex-Link) to me! I just got 4 of these babies recently myself!:) while the variety is nice, having them in general & the eggs they provide is the real blessing - regardless of their breed! This site has helped me & many others soo much, there's a wealth of knowledge to explore in the article section as well! Maybe you can find some answers there in the meantime?

honestly, my first tries (before the surgery she had) were taken from this forum. It was not very useful because she had a broken and rotten egg in her oviduct so there was not much I could do, as a 'simple person', she needed attention.
Yes!! I digged a bit more on the info and it looks like they are a mix of Rhode Island Red and Plymouth Rock Barrada.
I honestly didnt get them for the breed, just to raise them and spend time with them, and of course, get some real eggs.
Having them suffering is terrible.

Oh wow, this is a lot of good information. I don't think I'm having a BIG emergency right now, she is recovering from surgery and she looks very bored/depressed when she is inside, but as soon as i put her outside she pecks, walks, digs. The worrying part is that she is mostly inside (we are in winter down here) and when she is inside she mostly does not want to eat. I just want to provide her with something to do while she is inside, so she will feel better.
But honestly that thread is amazing, thanks for it i pinned it on my bar <3
