Good evening everyone. My name is Christin and I like in Austin, AR. So, I decided that I want to start raising chickens for eggs. I have a 6'x8' dog pen and dog house that my dogs refuse to use. I thought this would make a nice run. I need to buy a roof and remove the pea gravel to put in new sand flooring. I was thinking of stating out with 2 chickens to start with, and thinking I could have 4 tops in the size run I have. Anyone have any good tips to help me start out. Do I need 2 nesting box for 2 chickens? I have an old hooded cat litter box I am thinking of using for a nesting box. I was also thinking of milk crates too.

from Ohio. So glad you joined. What you have should be fine for two birds. Just remember you will need a roost inside the dog house for them to roost on at night. Don't forget to make it secure from predators as well. Good Luck.

This is the dog house I have. Would I put the roosting bar along the short side or long side. Do I need nesting boxes too?

Since my dog house is in a run and it will have a roof, does the "coop" still need a door or is it good enough the way it is?

I use an old litter box too the hens love it. One will be fine for just the 2 hens.
