Hi Carissa, I'm new here as well & I'm from Australia too I'm actually buying some silkies tomorrow. It will be my first time owning them, I'm a little excited. I think they are just gorgeous.. Im also going to get a few Peking, just for my backyard any advice on the silkies would be appreciated..

Oh how exciting!!! You will love them no doubt you will want to buy more even before you get home hahaha

I currently only have 3 silkies, so currently I have 1 Partridge Roo and 1 Partridge Hen and they have 1 chick which is 2 weeks old...

I'd recommend if you haven't done so already, dusting your nesting boxes and surrounds with mite and lice dust (I use Pestene) and then place your nesting material on top with a little more dust.... Pestene is also safe to use on your chickens so dusting them at the same time would be a good idea to help prevent an outbreak of mites... How many silkies are you planning on getting tomorrow? Do you think you will get a rooster to breed? Where abouts in Australia are you!

I feed my adult silkies chick grower and for the little guys chick starter, as most pelleted food is too coarse for silkies

I also have peking bantams, I have 1 partridge cockerel, 3 buffs, 1 wheaten, and 3 brown-red hens.....

I recently purchased an incubator I will give the pekin's a go at first and then move onto incubating some silkie eggs, this will be my first time so I'm excited and can't wait to start
