Hello Everyone!

I am yet another city-raised girl that decided to uproot her family and head to the country. We now have a nice little 5 acre homestead (still can't decide on a name) with chickens and lots of other farm animals!

I love, love, love my chickens though! We started out with a few White Leghorns, and I love their egg laying capabilities...I'd never had a farm fresh egg until about a month ago when our girls started laying.

I've now purchased some Black Australorp and Buff Orphington baby chicks to raise. Looking forward to learning all about chickens, and the great people on this forum!

Welcome to BYC! Glad you decided to join our flock. Australorps and Orpingtons are wonderful breeds. You will find them to be a lot calmer and gentler birds than the Leghorns. My children, and now my granddaughter, made lap pets out of them. Feel free to ask any other questions you may have. We are here to help in any way we can. Good luck with your flock.

Thanks, everyone!!! Our baby chicks are just a few days old, but we already love them!

And we decided to go with the buff orps and BA because of their great reputation with children. Can't wait to learn all about them.

Oh, you will love those Buff Orps and Black Aussies....EXCELLENT breeds for kids and adults too! Very friendly, docile, great layers and hardy as well. My Aussies follow me around like drooling puppies looking for goodies or a nice soft lap to sit in. Huge on the lap sitting!!

Enjoy your new chicks and welcome to our flock!
