Hello!
My husband and I reside on a small 2 acre hobby farm in BC, Canada. We took over the property that I was raised on so I've had chickens as long as I can remember, usually Rhode Island Reds, max 10. We currently have 11 chickens: 4 Amerucanas and 7 Lohmanns. We started out this new flock 3 years ago with Amerucanas, 6 hens and 1 rooster, but 1 hen was swooped up by an eagle and that darn rooster had to go! Recently we were given 7 (free!) Lohmanns and introducing them hasn't gone that well; 1 Amerucana passed away last night.
I joined BYC cause I had never personally dealt with a deceased hen and had no clue how to process it. After attempting (badly!) I searched and found this site!
As well as the 11 chickens, we have 1 cow (Angus), 2 goats (Saanen), 1 dog (SharPei/Weimaraner), 2 cats (1 calico, 1 tabby), 9 goldfish (for the water troughs, to help with algae), and a 15 month old daughter! I can't decide which one keeps us on our toes more!
Thanks for the add, I have a ton of questions and it looks like I've found the right place!
