Hi everyone! I am alecia, and my partner and I have recently a acquired a chicken (hen). He brought her home late one night after finding her in his parents backyard. We have eventually decided to keep her, and have bought her a chicken coop to live in. (It's a metre high, by 1.7 long, with a little room in it which is dark and has a nesting box and rods for her to perch on.
We had to get something sturdy because she seems to be an escape artist. In the 3 days we had her originally, she escaped twice. We were lucky to find her! So we shipped her off to my Nan's house, where she was setup for chickens. We went to pick her up yesterday (once we had the coop), to find her missing again! Thankfully she was at the neighbour's house (eating a toad)' and eventually managed to get her to come back (eventually is the key word, because they have dogs and I was too scared to go in their yard, so we had to convince her the pellets we had were better than the toad she was quite obviously enjoying.)
So now she is home, and I am so happy that she is back. We seriously know very little about chickens, so it's going to be interesting but hopefully google will be able to help me through it!

We plan to get her a friend, just have to find one and not too sure where to look. Nan thinks she's roughly 12 weeks old, because she still has a fluffy bum, and lays little eggs (46g). She suggests I get another chicken roughly the same age so that they make good companions for each other. Nan only has 5 chickens of her own, so I can't pinch hers
