Hello from British Columbia (and Questions)

You can also use the search tool... or just ask away! Anyway, I feel chickens are an asset to any household. They are interesting critters and feed you all at the same time. What can be better than that? Even my dog doesn't do that and I LOVE her!

Greetings from Maryland and welcome to BYC!!

Hi and :welcome from Ohio. So glad you joined. Your backyard is fine for letting the chickens roam. A 4x4 coop will hold 4 birds. Myself I would only go with 3. Feather picking becomes a problems when chickens are cramped. The reason most people go with the largest size coop and runs is because chicken math gets the best of us. Chickens are like chips, it is hard to stop at just a few. Chickens get use to pretty much anything. If you are worried about the cars going by, is there something you could put up on that side to block their view? I have never bought pullets so I can't help there but I do suggest getting them at the same time, that way they can grow up together, less problems that way. Good luck. :thumbsup

Thanks for the input and greetings all. I can only get 4 chickens max for law and family reasons.

I wrote the size information wrong I think. It's supposed to be 16X16 run and 8X8 coop because wasn't it supposed to be 8X8 and 4X4 respectively for 1 chicken? I'm trying to push the run to 20X20 but I don't think I'll have luck with that from the family.

Also, I don't think my chickens would see many cars from where the coop would be. I think the problem would be the sound of passing cars possibly scaring them. Especially the sound of the van that is parked right next to the coop/run. And would exhaust from said van cause any problems?
