Good Morning,

My husband and I along with our soon to be 5 and 7 year old will be getting 14 chicks in two weeks. We have never raised chicks before and are looking forward to the adventure that it will bring.

We are getting:
2 Barred Plymouth Rock

2 Colombian Rock
2 Rhode Island Red
2 Red Rock Cross
2 Leghorn
2 Sex-Sal-Link Brown
2 Ameraucanas (not sexed)

We are looking forward to raising the chicks and watching them in their daily lives. So excited to teach the kids where the food comes from and the duties that come along with a backyard flock.

We have a one year old golden retriever and live on 3.5 acres in British Columbia, Canada. We are currently building our 8x10 coop with a 10x16 covered run off the coop. We are doubling up on galvanized wire to protect from the predators. Our coop runs adjacent to our house and we will be able to sit on our front veranda and watch them play all day!

I heard of this site many times through searching up random questions. Felt it was time I join and begin on the conversation.

Look forward to chatting with you all.

Welcome to Backyard Chickens hardware cloth best price is Amazon most often no one get in there but nothing is really bear proof :frow

I'm going to check out amazon again. When I looked before it turned out to be cheaper at a local farm store but maybe I calculated wrong.

Unfortunately we will be dealing with bears. We live in the mountains of BC - part of their homeland.
