(1) Are you new to chickens / when did you first get chickens? Yes, I'm new to poultry. I'm interested in keeping mostly quail and perhaps some chickens.

(2) How many chickens do you have right now? Zero. I'm doing my research first. And since late-Fall through winter seems to be the offseason for poultry in general, I figure now is a good time to do the research.

(3) What breeds do you have? None.

(4) How did you find out about BackYardChickens.com? Google

(5) What are some of your other hobbies? Permaculture, gardening, Boy & Girl Scouting, role-playing games, computer games

(6) Tell us about your family, your other pets, your occupation, or anything else you'd like to share. I have 5 great kids who spend half their time with me (and the other half with my ex). I don't have any pets currently, but I'm considering getting a cat or guinea pigs as a Christmas gift to my kids (shhh, it's a secret). I'm a chemist and engineer. I work in the aerospace industry.

:welcome

You're already off to a great start by researching and learning all you can before you get birds. If you haven't already done so, check out the Learning Center...lots of good articles there on chickens and some on quail too:

Make yourself at home here and always feel free to ask questions!

G’Day from down under dustingebhardt :frow Welcome!

If you do get chickens, you might be interested in downloading this free e-book My First Year With Chickens

If you have not found it yet, BYC has a Quail Forum.

I do hope you enjoy being a BYC member. There are lots of friendly and very helpful folks here so not only is it overflowing with useful information it is also a great place to make friends and have some fun.

Personally, I have found the Topic of the Week articles a great resource and a one stop shop for questions which may have already been discussed within the BYC membership group.

If you would like to share pictures and stories of your flock when they arrive, you have come to the right place. BYC’ers never tire of these and do not back away slowly or commence eye rolling when the photo album or home videos come out ;)
