Well, I found BYC this morning while I was on line. I was looking for plans to build a homemade incubater. Chauntecleer is doing his job, but none of my hens are broody. So we are going to try and hatch some soon. We have a small acerage in west central Arkansas. We have six goats, five chickens, four dogs, and a working cat. We started out with bantam chickens and got cleaned out by the local racoons. One of my neighbors gave us three BlackStar hens and one old Rhode Island Red rooster. One of the hens went broody last year and hatched two chicks (Another hen and our rooster, Chauntecleer). Bruster the rooster has gone on to the great coop in the sky. Like I mentioned before, we hope to grow our flock this spring. I have a hot wire on top of the fence now, and we have been coon free since then.

Sounds like you are starting the path to an awesome new project! Will you get some more black star hens, or what are you interested?
Do you have a NICE Rhode Island roo?
Hugs and welcome to THE BEST place omn the 'net
