Hello, I'm new to the website and raising chickens. In the past I've raised and breed pet rabbits and rats. My husband and I have talked about raising chickens for 6+ years and this year were revisiting the idea of chickens. Recently I picked up a book called "The Beginner's Guide to Raising Chickens" by Anne Kuo.

I've looked into the ordnance in our area and we live outside the city limits. I can't find much information on this. My husband knows at least 2 people in our area have or use to have chickens before his uncle moved away. He gave us quail eggs a few times. My father-in-law was talking about wanting to raise quail.

I plan on having a all-in-one stationary coop with run and start out with at least 4 hens. My top 2 choices of breeds are Sussex and Easter Egger. I want to research as much as possible before we make a final decision.

Welcome to Backyard Chickens. Do you know if you are allowed to have chickens where you live? If not most areas DO allow quail.

Thank you. From my understanding we can have chickens. There is one member on here from my area and they have chickens. The ordnance just rolls chickens all-into-one with the livestock ordnance and it's a little confusing. Some of the other counties in WV have clear information on this but not our county. I've tried to look online and download the ordnance and all I got is just taking care of them.

No information on coop distance from a dwelling or how many are allowed. So, I assume there is no limit like the other counties. With COVID-19 going on we can't go to the city and ask about the zoning code for our neighborhood. We did ask our nearest neighbors if they mind if we had chickens. They are supportive and surprised we haven't had chickens yet. 😁
