Hello from Burlington Ontario Canada!!

Hello! I'm also in Burlington, Ontario, but moving to Flamborough next month. It is highly illegal to raise poultry within the city limits.

Bump!

I can't find anything on the Burlington city website about chickens... good or bad. Can anyone provide an update on this thread?

Try contacting your local government. Also, if you start a new thread of your own, you'll likely get more responses. The original poster for this thread posted in 2011.

I emailed back and forth with a Burlington Council lady.

At first she was very helpful and said she would take to people for me and get more information and see where the chicken debate is at... then i got a very blunt short emailing saying:

:" I have discuss this with the appropriate staff and this would not be a permitted use. "

thats it....

discouraging.

so im just going to do it anyways :) my neighbours dont mind and their dogs are way louder than any chicken will ever be!

Welcome to the BYC flock! We are glad you joined us!

It's great that you are being responsible and finding out everything you can before you get chickens. I hope you are able to have them where you live.

On the subject of necrobumping... I felt that it was better to contain the discussion in a single thread rather than create a new one. Not only would I avoid people linking me to the old thread which I have already read, but it provides a good background for new readers and I figured that some of the original participants might recognize the thread and provide an update on their efforts... which one already has! :)

Personally, I don't ignore threads that have old start dates on them but I may jump to the last page when I read an old one.

Actually, now that I've had a chance to look around a bit, I'm a little surprised that the mods didn't move this thread into a more appropriate area. I'm going to start a new thread for this under the "Local Chicken Laws & Ordinances (and how to change them)" section.

I will instead use this thread to introduce myself as a wannabe backyard chicken keeper. My mom and dad have chickens on their little property in a small town north of Muskoka. The kids love visiting and taking care of the chickens and the fresh eggs are a real treat!

Hoping I can convince the local municipality to cooperate but more than that... I need to convince my wife! Don't suppose anyone has some tips for that? ;-)
