Hi everyone,
Happy New Year! My name is Caroline and I'm from Pleasanton, California.
(1) Are you new to chickens / when did you first get chickens?
Yes, new to chickens! My significant other randomly decided to get 3 leghorns (2 hens, 1 rooster) last month. He has chicken experience. I, on the other hand, have been a city gal most of my life! I never thought I would love chickens as much as I do now. I've really jumped in trying to learn as much as possible in such a short time! Very fun.
As of today, we have two flocks -- one in the San Francisco Bay Area suburbs and one in the Gold Country on a 20-acre ranch.
(2) How many chickens do you have right now?
We have 14 total -- 4 in the 'burbs and 10 at the ranch.
(3) What breeds do you have?
In addition to the leghorns, we have some cuckoo marans, a buff orphington, new hampshire reds, a rhode island red, easter eggers, black star, and a gray something-or-other (got at auction, no idea what she is!) All are hens except the one rooster we named Harvey (after Harvey Weinstein!)
(4) How did you find out about BackYardChickens.com?
Google search
(5) What are some of your other hobbies?
Just completely remodeled a small cottage home and have a never-ending list of projects sill! Significant other is a legal pot farmer -- racing to meet demands of the new laws that made marijuana legal recreationally in California as of yesterday!
(6) Tell us about your family, your other pets, your occupation, or anything else you'd like to share.
I have two boys (15 and 8) and four cats (3 indoor/outdoor; 1 outdoor feral who adopted me) at home and 2 pigs, 1 cat and 2 dogs at the ranch. I work in high tech marketing and am super excited to join this community of like-minded folks!
