Hello from Carpenter Coop

Hello there and welcome to BYC!

Sounds like a nice group of birds! This is the place to be when you own poultry!

If you have any questions, feel free to ask. Make yourself at home here on BYC and welcome to our flock!

Welcome to BYC! You have a great group of layers there. Buff Orpingtons are beautiful and calm, gentle birds, and for these reasons, I keep a few of them in my flock. White Leghorns are not calm (mine always cried bloody murder when I handled them), but they are superb layers, and Stars (Sex Links) are egg laying machines. Are your Stars Black Sex Links (mine are) or Red Sex Links?

Sounds like you have Red Stars (Red Sex Link) as Black Stars (Black Sex Link) are primarily black with some reddish or brownish feathers in the neck area. You can ID you Stars for certain by the pictures below.

P.S. The color of the Red Sex Link (Red Star) can vary somewhat from a darker brown to a lighter color (almost a gold) depending on what white/silver gene hens are used in the cross, but they all have some white feathers in the tail.
