Hi, I am two weeks into my first 15 chickens (leghorns). They are the most entertaining thing I've ever seen. I'm really suprised how my family took to them. My husband and I are just putting the finishing touches on their coup and run. They will have a coup and fenced in run. I'd love to free range, but my husky can not be trusted. Because of him I've had to put a 4 ft fence around my vegetable garden. It seems carrots won't sprout if there is an 80lb dog butt on top of them. Anyway, I've spent over 3 years researching this and am really happy with how it's going so far. We are now out on 3 acres and the amount of freedom, peace, piece of mind and happiness cannot be measured. We just finished building our house on April 20 we got our certificate of occupancy. The girls have their spot ready and I can't wait to see how it all pans out.

Welcome to BYC. Husky prey drive is generally way too strong to trust them around chickens. If he tries to get to them, installing an electric fence/wire will dissuade him and other predators. Enjoy your flock. Leghorns are my favorites.

Sounds like you have a little peace of heaven

I have a dog that thinks my garden gate is there just for hurdling practice

I can relate. Hope that fence does the trick!
