There is always space for more members on the BYC roost! Selecting chicken breeds really depends on what purpose you want them for. Different chicken breeds can be very different in character, egg production, meat quality etc.. Hope you enjoy it here as much as we all do!

I would suggest you pay extra to get sexed chicks, so you don't end up with a box full of soon to be roosters. Many communities do not allow roosters. They tend to be very difficult to sell, re home- many will end up as dinner.

Welcome to Backyard Chickens. If you someday want to incubate chicks you can buy fertile eggs of the breeds you desire, without needing to own a rooster.

PS even hatching fertile eggs you will likely find some males among your chicks. That's a given.
