Hello! Welcome from West Central Pa!!!! cute looking group you have started there... glad you and the kids are enjoying them so much... but be warned! Chickens are addictive and there will be this little thing called 'chicken math' which will soon set in and whatever plan you have for your coop now... I would suggest you expand it!

Stop on over at the Pa. Unite thread to introduce yourself... lots of helpful folk in your area and always something going on, also a great source for local info and supply suggestions etc...

this is the last page of the thread (currently)... if you go back about 10 or 15 pages and read forward from there you will have a good idea of how things are there. Lots of great folks and great info and experience there.

Enjoy your time on BYC.... it is an awesome info source!

Fisherlady, thank you for all the great info. We are definitely on the same page as you in terms of a coop. The winter here had been really cold this year so I built a staging coop in the garage to keep the chicks warm and happy for a few weeks while I build a big coop outdoors. They sure are dusty little bugger's!

Can anyone please point us in the right direction on coop size? We have six chixs right now...now...I'm sure we will get more. What is a nice size coop? I plan on building a big run for them too. I'm not planning on having them free range at first due to a neighbors dog that likes to visit us.
