Hi everyone! My name is Judy. While I’m not technically new to chickens, I haven’t had a flock in almost 45 years. I can’t begin to express how happy they make me.
I adopted a small flock of 12 hens, 3 roosters, and 2 guinea hens when a good friend moved out of state.
When I last had chickens it was a pretty common mix of leghorns, RIRs, and barred rocks. Nothing fancy lol. Now I’m learning about new breeds. I think I have one Brahma rooster and two Ameraucana roosters, and a mix of leghorn, RIR, Brahma, and Ameraucana hens (and 2 I’m not sure of their breed).
We are currently getting to know each other. The first week the Brahma rooster watched me like a hawk and I thought he was going to attack me! We have since become friends and he now lets me pet him and he will eat out of my hand. There are only three of the hens that are a bit skittish around me. I’m totally loving their personalities!
As I got into refreshing my memory and doing more chicken research, a friend recommended BYC and the BYC FB group. I joined both and I have to say both are awesome! I’m pretty sure it’s the best decision I’ve made since adding chickens to my family!
