The math on how the flock will continue to get larger? Like I said, I'm only allowed 6 max by my city, and if I make my run any bigger than I'm allowing, I won't have enough room for my dogs....so 4 chickens really is my max. If there is another math I'm missing, please enlighten me. Thanks! :)

It is like: hens that are not laying do not count! Chicks do not count and cockerels do not count since you have to re home them or process them....That way you can say you only have 6 hens!

And if a couple hens stop laying in 2 or 3 years, and you want to add a couple more layers, but you are in love with the ones you have, so you just add.

I'm looking forward to learning all that I can. In my neighborhood, we are only allowed to have a max of 6 chickens (no rooster). I'm a preschool teacher (who knits, crochets, quilts, plays computer games, and loves to read), I homeschool my oldest child (and my youngest child is a social butterfly who never stops), we have dogs, and we foster dogs, so my house is always already crazy. :) We also have woods behind our house and the coyotes are very active back there. My chickens are going to be in a run full-time to keep them safe. I'm looking forward to learning all I can to be the best chicken mommy I can be. :)

Howdy, neighbor! I'm just north of you, also knit, crochet, collect and foster dogs and cats and try to keep coyotes out of our yard! :) Welcome to the chicken club! :welcome
