Hello from Copperopolis

Hello from Copperopolis, CA. I have been keeping backyard chickens for a couple years. Just joined BYC to learn as much as I can. This year many of the hens set and I have lots of chicks, ranging from 1 to 4 weeks. Need to thin out roosters and wonder what age is best to rehome? Also, how do you deal with hens being with their father rooster?

Hello, Meg, and welcome to BYC! Glad you joined.
I advertise cockerels at 12 weeks old. I advertise on CL and three local/regional FB Poultry groups. It takes several weeks to find homes for them. If they get obnoxious with their sisters, they get locked up in their own space.
When the pullets come of age, their father will breed them. I still cringe a little when I see my rooster on his daughters. I don't hatch their eggs when I want to set some under a broody though.
