Are you new to chickens / when did you first get chickens?
Yes and no I have had chickens all my life they were my first "official" project in 4-h at 10. I ranched in Texas and had them in Cali and Ill, However this is the first attempt in AK. I am a little concerned I know AK presents obsticals I am not used to i.e. light, temps, and preditors.(also feed and supply availability)

(2) How many chickens do you have right now?
right now I have 28 roosters and 50 hens from McMurry Hatchery. They are wonderful. surprised they survived the trip. Hens are a week old and roosters 4 weeks now. The kids here have never seen chickens. Nor have quite a few of the adults. We live in a Native Alaskan Village off the Norton Sound. No roads in or out or CLOSE to us. You can't drive anywhere. Fly in or out only.

(3) What breeds do you have?
Heavys.. ??? I have always had sexlinks... or RIR.. so I have no idea what some of these chicks are ... I can guess but I will wait until they are bigger to start that investigation. Actually I am going to leave it up to my 4-H group...

(4) How did you find out about BackYardChickens.com?
Googled looking for coop designs
(5) What are some of your other hobbies?
LOL raising children, I LOVE goats.. we are getting a few Dwarf Nigerians (hopefully this year) knitting and spining.
(6) Tell us about your family, your other pets, your occupation, or anything else you'd like to share.
I am a mom of 8 4 of which live with us still . I have 25,24(boy)22,17,16,15,8(boy),3 One grandson and one grand child ( I think its a boy) on the way. I have lived in Cali, Ill, and my HOME Texas, Anchorage for 6 years and now Western AK (east of Nome). I have a degree in Pharmacy, and did that for 15 years, I have also worked in and co-owned a plumbing biz with my ex-husband. I also ranched for 10 years 600 head of Boer goats starting with ONE in 1995. and growing to 600 in 2003. Then moved to AK. Other pets... Two Great AK Mals, a chihillahuey(husbands) and thats it right now... Goats are coming!! Dwarf Nig. and an Angora buck..for my spining so he can make his keep. We homeschool, and live a subsistance lifestyle. We are not off grid but are prepared for that event. I guess thats about it!

Wow! I would LOVE to see pictures from your home! I have always been very interested in the native culture. I bet it is wonderful watching the children with the peeps! It sounds like you are up for a challenge finding food for the chicks! Good luck, I know you will have fresh eggs before you know it!
