I grew up on a horse farm and helped raise loads of chickens as a kid. After some time in city life and suburbia, I'm going back to my roots & starting a lil homestead out in the country.

As of this introduction, I have the building materials for a coop and zero chickens, but I also just moved to a new property, so there hasn't been much time to get birds set up, between all the moving & settling in that's been going on. I was hoping to get the coop sorted this weekend, but it looks like more rain and freezing temps are incoming, so I might be waiting for another warm spell.

As a kid I always loved making friends with the chickens, watching their behaviors and personalities, and training some of them to do silly tricks. One rooster used to run across the yard every day after school to jump into my arms and demand cuddle time. They're such cool animals.

I also have a backyard garden to grow my own veggies, and spend time indoors writing fiction and watercolor painting.

I stumbled into BYC via Google several times, searching for answers about breeds, coop-building, and sellers of local birds. I want to start a flock with a genetic breeding project in mind.

Hello and Welcome to the BYC family, really enjoyed your introduction and how you shared your background and aspirations, "back to Your Roots" excellent mind set!

Thank you! I'm looking forward to throwing extra veggie scraps to the the ladies this summer. =) I didn't realize how MUCH I missed having chickens around until I had the space for them again.
