(1) Are you new to chickens / when did you first get chickens?
I was fortunate enough to get some hens at the start of this year, I have nine hens and they are almost all laying eggs.
I have a mix of breeds, mostly to get a feel for the individual sets of behaviors and egg laying capabilities. So far my favorites are Orpingtons and Red Stars.
I think what I have come to love most about chickens is their personalities, spending time with them is a joy. The eggs are such a huge bonus.
I am also an artist, I'm hoping to steer some of my efforts towards making chicken art some day. I am planning on having a ceramics studio in the future, I would really love to make functional pottery.
I've gotten a lot of help from BYC just by reading posts about chicken behaviors and so on. I figured it was time to join seeing how I've become a total birdbrain this year.
The picture is one of my favorite girls, Helga. She is not laying yet but she is very chill.
