Hey all, my name is Jenn, and I am just in the research phase of my backyard chickens. I am trying to figure out now what kind of chickens I would like to get, and there are so many breeds it is a bit overwhelming. Also trying to figure out special requirements my coop might need. But I will ask those questions elsewhere...

Otherwise, I am 39, I have a 6 year old daughter who is in kindergarten and loving it and a 19 year old son who is currently in the US Army stationed at Fort Huachuca in Arizona. Also I have a German Shepherd puppy and a Chihuahua. I am a full time student at FIT, and I also hold an AS in Crime Scene Technology. I spend my free time reading, playing pool, cooking, and when time allows I go to the range. My mother has a garden and so I am learning how to jar our produce.

Umm... that's about it I guess... I am horrible at these introduction posts so I will shut up now :)

We also have a German Sheperd he is 4
I have two daughter 4 and 7

I'm really not too sure about what sort've chickens do well in the Florda heat...But a big welcome to you and congrats on your new chicken adventure!!

! Happy you joined our community! BYC is a great place for research! Below is a great chart that talks about breeds - might help you narrow your search...or make you want a whole lot of many different breeds!! Good luck and have fun!!

Thanks all! I have been busy doing research the last few days. I can only keep 4 chickens where I live, so I am going to get a couple of Buff Orpingtons and a couple Barred Rock Chickens. I have my coop design picked out and *hope* to begin construction on that this weekend, although I may have to wait til next week (sigh). I can't wait to get started!!
