Hello from Fort Worth, Texas!

Good morning, welcome to BYC.
I'm sorry for the loss of Percy! You have such beautiful hens.
BTW, I'm just down south of you, summers are pretty hard on my flock. Especially my older and larger hens.
All this humidity!
I always keep some frozen water bottles handy and just toss them around in the shade, I put frozen blueberries in shallow pans of water when it's really hot to encourage them to drink, and shallow pans of water for them to stand in.
Good luck with your flock!

Thank you so much, I’ve been trying to find ways to keep them cool! So far I’ve been using a mister and giving them watermelon wedges when I get the chance with moderate success; definitely throwing some water bottles in the freezer tonight! Summer hit so fast after those storms none of us got a chance to acclimate 🥵 hope you and yours are managing to beat the heat!

Thank you, so far we are doing great.

Be careful with the misters; they are great while they are running, but when the ground starts drying it gets very steamy and feels hotter. If you run them try to keep them going long enough to soak into the ground.
It's like those nasty little sprinkles we get that makes it feel hotter, rather than cooling things off.

Every chicken I've had, has loved scratching in the mud on hot days. I make a point of pouring the excess water out in a low spot when I change out the water.

Keep an eye on your nesting boxes. I've found that they get overheated there more than anywhere else..

If you have to deal with heat stroke, lay the hen on your cool shower floor. Wet her feet, put a cool wet towel over her whole body and cool wet rags between the wings and the body.

I hope you never have to deal with this, but it's good to be prepared.

I do that too...the flock loves :) the puddle it makes.
