Hello from Fort Collins, Colorado!
I live in the country with my husband Steve, 3 dogs, 2 cats, 1 horse, one old rescued Silky Rooster named Slick,1 Rhode Island Red "Red", 2 Barred Rocks "Lita and Joan", 2 Silver laced Wyandotts "Tammy and Georgette", 1 White Production hen "Spaz", 4 Buffs "Ramona, Jill, Betty and Yella" and 3 Midget White Turkeys "Clara, Stella and Emma" and as of last week 4 more midget white chicks (fingers crossed for a Tom!). Clara is my pal and can always be found not far from me, when I go inside, she lays on the back step and waits. Sometimes she will get impatient and holler at me thru the screen. She is currently mothering the 4 new babies. She is a momma at heart and has raised 6 chicks from my chickens so far.
We have had our girls and Slick for about 3 years now. We enjoy watching them and always get a chuckle when we holler for "the girls" and they come a running. They are kept in a chicken house (large tuff shed) with an attached covered run (made from 3 chain link dog runs we bought off craigslist!) during the day and in the evening and weekends when we are home, they get to roam and hunt bugs!
I sell the extra eggs each week to my co-workers who appreciate feeding their families good fresh farm eggs. It never fails to make me smile when my folks are visiting, my Mother can't wait to finish with meals so she can go out and feed the chickens! She has never been much for outside animals but she is a living example of how hard it is to resist a happy clucking bunch of hens!
