Hi, everyone, My husband and I are new to chickens (and guineas), and we have a lot to share, and even more questions to ask. We started out wanting eggs, and perhaps a few broilers, but now I've fallen head-over-heels for my flock of fowl. My husband built a wonderful, sturdy and safe coop for the flock, and a sizeable run. We figure our eggs will cost about $5.00 apiece until about the year 2024, then we might begin to make our money back in eggs.

. Actually, cost wasn't the main consideration - we wanted healthier eggs, and we wanted the "hobby" to enjoy together. I've since found that, for me, chickens aren't as much a hobby as they are pets. My husband is still looking forward to breakfasts. It's our goal to provide our flock with the happiest lives we can offer, while they provide the best eggs they have to give. Our hens are still too young to lay eggs, but we're patient. I'm glad to have found a forum where I can ask questions and learn how to raise happy, healthy chickens. Best regards, Leigh H.

I've suspected that will be the case for us, but I haven't told my husband that yet. I'll let him figure it out. Thanks for your reply.

Welcome from a fellow Georgian. I'm in the Savannah area and my family and I just started out with our first flock. Just realized today, as it is pouring, that I'm really going to need to get a tin roof on this coop fast. Have a tarp over the top right now. We would love to have a few guineas ourselves. Maybe soon.

Again welcome!! (just joined the forum myself)
