Hi all! I'm brand new to chickens, but have always wanted them. I "think" I'm allowed to have them here :) I am having trouble determining if I can legally have them. If anyone has insight on that part I'd rrealy appreciate it. I'm considering a small flock of 3-5 hens for eggs and pets. I'm looking into barred rocks, buff orpington, Easter eggers, golden buff and black australorps. I'd like a variety. I'll take any and all advice. I can already tell this is going to be addicting.

You can call your local town hall and they can tell you if you can and how many.

Good luck and I hope you can get your chickens soon!

Call your township trustees. If you live in a village, call the village office. We live in Pike township in Brown Co. just east of Cincinnati. Most places don't say too much about chickens unless they bother the neighbors. They are more likely to have rules about dogs.

Hello..You might be able to find that information right on the internet. Depending on your Township, City, County etc...there should be some sort of "code" listed on your townships webpage. For me, I live in the City of Chico, so I googled City of Chico municipal code chickens, and it pops right up with the rules.

I've found several different people here and on Facebook near me with chickens. I think I will be fine. I don't plan on having a rooster and I'm sure if they do notice they will just want eggs :) Through this search I've found several local people who have chicks. Now off to research breeds I hadn't considered before.
